Official Golf Australia handicap provider

How it works

About Golf Unlimited

Golf Unlimited’s mission is to provide access to universally recognised handicapping at the best possible price, and contribute to the growth in the game of golf.

We understand that traditional golf club memberships are not suitable or affordable for everyone. A Golf Unlimited membership allows you the flexibility to play any time, anywhere, and still have those rounds count for official handicapping purposes.

Why get a Handicap?

Play in competitions

You can play in club, state, and national competitions, including official Golf Australia amateur events. One of the great aspects of golf is the fair playing field created by the handicapping system, which provides competitive opportunities for all.

Insurance protection

Having an official Golf Australia handicap includes access to Golf Australia’s Personal Liability Insurance Policy. Save the stress of accidents on the course with potentially costly liabilities.

Play at any course

You can play at any course in the world that operates under the World Handicap System.

Submit Social Rounds for Handicapping

This is not a service provided by many golf memberships in Australia. Typically, for rounds to be recognised for handicapping purposes, golfers must participate in club competitions at a fee to have their rounds recorded in their handicap history. However, Golf Unlimited allows its members to submit an unlimited (hence the name) number of social rounds for handicapping, provided the rules of social conforming scoring are adhered to. Read further below for more information on submitting conforming social scores.

Apply for Your Handicap

If you have held a GOLF Link number previously, your handicap history will simply be transferred to your new GOLF Link once registered with Golf Unlimited.

For those new to handicapping, we require you to email us 3 x 18-hole scorecards, or 6 x 9-hole scorecards (or combination totalling 54 holes). These scorecards must be marked and signed by a playing partner who has an active GA Handicap.

Following your registration to Golf Unlimited, we will prompt you to complete this requirement and provide further instructions.

Submitting Scorecards for Handicapping

Once you have received your GOLF Link number, you’re ready to enter club competitions where you can compete against other players using your daily handicap based on the difficulty of the course to be played from. At the end of play, the host club will process your score for handicapping and you will see it appear in your handicap record.

Alternatively, one of the perks of a Golf Unlimited membership is that we allow you to submit conforming social scores (CSS) for handicapping. In short, this means you can play any time, anywhere, and so long as you play with a fellow GOLF Link member who can sign your scorecard, we’ll allow you to send us CSS for handicapping via our member login platform. Please see below for further conditions around CSS:

  • The player must have nominated prior to starting a round that it is to count for handicap purposes

  • The player must have a marker throughout their entire round

  • The scoring format must be stableford

Still unsure how it works? Please feel free to get in touch.

FAQs

Can I transfer my existing handicap? How long does it take?

Yes, if you have an existing handicap, or have held one previously, we ask you to provide this information in the application form. You will receive a new GOLF Link number within 48 hours, after which it can be used to enter competitions. Your handicap history will be copied across to your new record.

Golf Unlimited doesn’t have a golf course. How is it able to be a handicap provider?

Golf Unlimited is an affiliated member club of Golf Australia, to which it pays annual affiliation fees. Through this affiliation, Golf Unlimited is a recognised handicap provider, and can pass on certain benefits to members such as the access to Golf Australia’s Personal Liability Insurance Policy. Golf Unlimited processes scorecards for handicapping in accordance with conforming social score rules.

Does Golf Unlimited host golf events?

Currently, no. If you’re looking for advice on suitable events to participate in, from fun social events to serious competition, we’re always happy to help. Your official GA handicap provides you access to so many opportunities.
